How Do Children Learn?

Children in their early years have an immense capacity to learn.

It is the way in which we organise and provide their experiences which in turn, enables their development to be nurtured.

At Aston Pierpoint the essential elements which we ensure are present both physically and via our carer’s role, are that our children have a safe, secure and well-organised environment, within which they are valued and have:
  • Opportunities to play
  • Opportunities for exploration and discovery
  • Opportunities to make choices, decisions, be independent and negotiate
  • Opportunities for success. (Our curriculum builds on what they already know, understand and can do rather than what they cannot do.)
  • Opportunities to talk, be listened to and be able to express their feelings
  • Stimulating experiences
  • Positive experiences that help to develop their self esteem
  • Positive relationships with adults and their peers

At Aston Pierpoint we challenge children’s thinking, by providing activities that require them to work in a variety of settings. They will have the experience of working individually, in pairs and in small groups, building on what they already know, understand and can do. We plan activities, in all of the early learning goals that will allow your child to have the opportunity to learn new skills, see these skills modelled and be given the time to practice, rehearse and consolidate this learning.

Our foundation stage is planned by our experienced early years teacher to ensure that our curriculum is effective and that all children receive a high quality early years education.
